BBC Inside Science - Taylor Swift Seismology
In 2024 during the Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, myself and Emma Greenough took some Raspberry Pi seismometers out onto the streets of Cardiff to see if we could record a signal from the masses of fans dancing in time to the music in the Principality Stadium. Our efforts were recorded by a team from the BBC Radio 4 show, Inside Science. The full episode is available to listen on BBC Sounds.
Unique compostion of LLSVPs
My 2025 paper Unique composition and evolutionary histories of large low velocity provinces received some press coverage.

Outreach
Cardiff Earth at Green Man Festival
Whilst working at Cardiff University I ran an outreach stall at Green Man Festival (2023, 2024). A group of us from the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences showcased a range of activites including:
- Water quality testing (linked to work in partnership with the Wye and Usk Foundation
- Earthquake monitoring with Raspberry Shakes
- Geological history of South Wales
- Sifting for forams
Step Up Program
Myself and Abi Plimmer ran a summer school class for teenagers in Cardiff to teach about geophysics and geodynamics. The purpose of the Step Up Program is to expose young people to subjects that they would not encounter in school, to showcase the breadth of options that study at university can offer.
