Field Demonstrator

Undergraduate field courses, Cardiff University, 2019

I have assisted as a field demonstrator from 2016-2019, helping undergraduates to identify geological structures in a real-world scenario and to gain confidence in orienteering, map reading, and making field observations.

Practical demonstrator

Undergraduate practical classes, Cardiff University, 2020

As a PhD student I assisted as a demonstrator in practical classes for:

Git classes for masters courses

Git classes for masters courses, Institute for Geophysics and Meteorology, 2025

As part of the numerical methods course, masters students have to complete a group project. I ran a series of classes introducing the theory and practicalities of git including.

ICON for observationalists

ICON for observationalists, Institute for Geophysics and Meteorology, 2025

Myself and José Vicencio ran an course for members of the AC3 community called ‘ICON for observationalists’. This course introduced numercial modelling and HPC concepts to scientists who wanted to improve their understanding of what their modeller colleagues get up to, or were planning to run some models for themselves for their own research. Topics covered included:

  • Installation of ICON
  • Installation of external packages eg pamtra-insitu
  • Generating model grids, external parameters, initial conditions
  • Running a simulation at different resolutions
  • Running a simulation with pamtra-insitu
